Vulcanology

Hi Guys,

No, we have not been studying volcanoes (yet we did watch Volcano Live this morning!). This week we have been doing a lot to do with Vulcans. First of all, on Monday we went to see Vulcan XH558. XH558 is absolutely massive, and if you didn't know, it is the last flying Vulcan. We saw it fly at Southport Airshow this year. It lives in a hangar at Doncaster airport so we had to drive all the way to Doncaster to see it! The Vulcan looks like this:

To give you a rough idea of how big it is, the red engine intake cover above the person to the right of dad is about 1 metre (40 inches, for you imperial people) from top to bottom at its widest.

I have also been making Airfix model Vulcan of XH558. It is 1:72 scale and has a wingspan of about 60 cm           (2 feet). Here is a pic:

At the moment  we are spraying the model with satin varnish to give it a nice finish.

I am also making two tanks at the moment; a British Churchill MK VII, and a German Panzer IV. I thought they would go nice together (Or rather not, as they are from completely different countries!).

See ya!

Matthew
